Lost Dog
see her at: http://www.fidofinder.com/dog.php?id=196019 Any replies to go to: Subject: FOUND!!! Please Help! Hi everyone, I apologize for the mass email (sent out to everyone in my address book), but I am trying to get this info out to as many people as possible in hopes that I will locate the owners of an adorable little dog that I rescued Tuesday evening (1/26/10) from heavy traffic on Wendover Ave. in the Latham Park area. I would greatly appreciate any information you might have or assistance you might offer to help get this little girl home! She is about 13lbs, black/gray and white, 1yo female, in excellent health. She looks like some sort of terrier/poodle/dachshund mix?? Very cute! She is well-mannered and gets on fine with my other 2 dogs, except she is in heat so she's understandably a little grouchy with my large male dog. She seems to be house broken and loves to snuggle on your lap! She has a kennel in my kitchen that she is very found of. Not very pleased about leash walking or harness, but she is so small I am afraid she'll squeeze out my back gate if I let her run outside. She is basically glued to my ankles right now anyway, so I doubt she'll be running off, but she is still very nervous and remains in somewhat of a "flight" mode, so I am being safe! I took her to the vet to scan for microchip (no chip). Her fecal and heart worm were all negative and I gave her a rabies shot and heart worm medication. She is clean, safe, fed and diapered now... and yes, doggy diapers are a brand new experience for me!?! If I do not locate the owner I will begin trying to find her a new forever home. If you have any idea about who this sweet girl belongs to, please contact me at 336-558-7341 or through email. amanda@coreintegritypilates.com Additionally, if you are interested in adopting her or know someone who might be, please let me know!!! If she winds up finding a new home, I am willing to have her spayed for the adopting parents. Thank you for your help and your care for all the animals out there who just need someone to give them a little love : ) Here is a link to her profile on FidoFinder you can paste into your browser and view. http://www.fidofinder.com/dog.php?id=196019 THANK YOU!!!!!
January – only do what you have to do. Blair’s Father used to say that things seemed to be the most difficult in the months of January and July. He would say: “only do what you have to do in those two months.” Many people stay busy celebrating from harvest moon and Halloween through New Year’s Eve. January used to be a time to slow down and take a break. Blair says to just look around you. It’s really cold (just as it is really hot in July). The frozen ground and bare trees are taking a break from providing sustenance. The animals have to work harder to get what they need. The days are shorter. The farmers are taking time to refuel themselves before planning the year ahead. They have to have a plan in order to survive. People in the city keep the lights on til 10pm or beyond, further separating themselves from being in rhythm with the sun. There are only so many people living and following the natural cycles. He says he thinks this may be what adds to the chaotic energy we experience on a daily basis. Most people in the Western world never stop, they live with chaotic patterns and they don’t plan ahead. They usually are not clear enough to hear or feel the medicine in the words of an elder. Words that don’t have to be understood by the “mind”. They just have to be received with the heart and trusted to unfold, as the time is right. The healing unspirals at just the right time, every time – to be accepted or not. Around the circle we go as we spiral back towards the stars. We’re all looking for a little stability and structure in our lives. Perhaps by focusing on practicing some regularity, it would calm the inner emotional waters immensely for all of us. We begin helping each other by finding the “calm within ourselves”. Then, once we are in balance, we can extend this inner strength to our family or spiritual family out into the community and beyond. Be sure about yourself before you come together in groups – get grounded. Most of us are following someone else’s plan. Sometimes that works all right and sometimes it doesn’t. Even if it does have some good things in it, if it comes from someone else, it isn’t truly yours. Look at your life – determine how much of it is your plan or someone else’s. When you have partnered with another’s plan, be sure you are in agreement with it – heart, mind and soul or else you may stay in a constant inner conflict with yourself. Often this results in staying very busy to keep you running ahead of the discomfort, thus keeping you in a state of constant confusion, unable to hear your own voice. Perhaps this is the best time of the year to be still – as still as the frozen water on the lake. Listen to your inner voice. Look at everything that comes to you in nature and in your day-to-day environment as your teacher. The simplest signs can bring great confirmations if you are paying attention. Listen. Take this time to get clear on what you want for this year. Your life matters, each and every one of us has an important part to play in this tapestry of our humanness and time together on Mother Earth. Get still in January and come February, be ready to do like the farmers do – make a plan. If you want something different in the fall harvest, you have to plan for something different now. If you want some of the same, don’t do a thing. If you want another year like last year, keep doing what you did last year. Now is the time to allow your inner plan to take shape for your greatest fall harvest ever. Choose the plants you want to see blossoming in your garden of life. Order the seeds now, make your plan and stick to it. Allow some room for the plants to grow at their own pace, nourish them with lots of love. Be patient, don't get caught up in the details. Pay attention to the things that need tending in your personal life through your inner voice. Your intuition will guide you – all you have to do is listen. Oh and have some fun in the process! A new community friend to check out: Diana Gardner-Williams has a journal coming out soon to share stories of loss through Proactive Living, Support, Healing & Memorials. She visited me on Monday to interview me regarding the loss of my beloved Kayla, see the link below for the full story with photos. Go check out Diana’s online journal version with lots of great information and give her a call to share your story of loss of a person, pet or baby. The gifts unseen are often the most treasured. We hope you all had a beautiful Thanksgiving with much to be thankful for. We had a great time at the Nov. 21st gratitude gathering celebration circle and potluck. Seems that everyone there had or is experiencing some sort of loss and yet were still willing to share stories of gratitude, songs and music with us. We all rocked Spirit House and Mother Earth was fat and happy with our heart-felt feedings! Thank you all for bringing your diversity to our circle and also for those of you who were committed to other places and said you’d be there in spirit, our blessings to you as well. An extra helping of big blessings goes out to our old friend, Songbear for bringing his guitar and singing a few songs for us. He’s usually tied up promoting other musicians, so it’s always a treat to have him join us and especially to hear him sing! Check out his website for upcoming shows. Speaking of bears, we plan to sing the bear song to put the bear to sleep for the upcoming winter months at our Dec. 19th Celebration Circle and Potluck. Come celebrate with us again at winter solstice, bring a potluck to share and your musical instruments. We’ll release 2009 and set the tone for the BEST YEAR EVER for 2010! Again, no gifting required for these last two celebration circles for 2009, the gift is love, food and laughter! May your holidays be blessed with beauty and simplicity and time to enjoy those you love. Remember to breathe and receive sustenance for your soul through the things that truly matter – the things that may not always be seen, especially the things that renew our faith, hope and love. “The Best and most beautiful things in the world cannot be seen or even touched. They must be felt by the heart.” -Helen Keller For those of you still with us here, let us share a story to ponder over the holidays. Also, we'd like to thank those of you who give us such positive feedback on our e-newsletters, its good to know people are actually reading these things! On Thanksgiving Day, we were grateful to have dinners in two cities with our families. The clouds began rolling in around 3:00pm as we headed down 311 from Blair’s Mother’s house in High Point on our way to my sister’s house in Winston-Salem for our second meal. How could we choose one family over the other, thank goodness they are only forty minutes apart. Riding down the road, I saw a beautiful young deer. He had shed his white fawn spots and was already in his winter gray coat, feeding alone in a field, tucked off of the highway in the shadows against the trees. He took hold of a big mouthful of grass and lifted his head to the sky, chewing as if he were also thanking the Great Mystery for the food given so freely. Even from the moving car, I could see those big eyes, so trusting, knowing within his deepest essence, he would receive whatever sustenance he needed and that gave me strength. Sometimes the doe will leave her fawns in tall grass while she goes hunting for food, telling them to stay low until she returns. He was somewhat older and in becoming more independent, he must have gotten hungry and began exploring on his own. Before I could even wonder where the young one’s Mother might be, my mind was slapped somber as we drove by a doe, laying dead on the same side of the road just a short distance from the young one. My heart cinched tight and tears quickly striped my cheeks for the baby left behind as I said prayers out loud for his survival. Blair reminded me that the young deer had moved on and was indeed surviving on its own. He pointed out that we didn’t know if this doe was actually the young one’s Mother. His Mother may have been behind the trees, deeper in the shadows as they allow their young to have more and more freedom as they get a little older after shedding their spots. I felt myself let go of that which I had no power over and allowed it to be whatever nature intended it to be. A message that seems to come frequently to a lot of us these days is to “let go”. It reminds me of the scene in the movie: “The Celestine Prophecy” where the man is about to be surrounded by a lot of armed assassins in the jungle. He realizes that he has nothing left to lose, that he is surely going to die, so he lets go and in doing so, he becomes one with the jungle and is invisible to what would have been his demise. What a challenge to let go and have faith in what we can not be see. Sometimes when it seems that all is lost, it is not. We may be on the verge of something beautiful, despite all of the things that may have happened to darken our road. There is always a silver lining. All we have to do – is to remember to ASK to be shown another way to look at things. Instead of asking “why me?” or “why now?” we can choose to ask “What is RIGHT with this situation?” Blair suggests that you continue asking because the first few answers may not grant you the true gift that is waiting to become yours. The gift comes within our desire to live 100% through the grief, joy, laughter and tears. By dropping our judgments, forgetting our former knowledge and allowing the truth to shine through, we receive gifts we may not have ever chosen for ourselves. They are born out of faith and hope and love. These are our greatest gifts as human beings – for ourselves and for each other. Together, we can dream and create a more beautiful tomorrow. It takes all of us together with each of our unique gifts to create the beautiful symphony that the world is so hungry for. Times are changing and becoming more harmonious with simpler solutions to allow us to enjoy living again. The day of the lone wolf is over, its not all about “me”, its about “us”! Ask how you can serve the greater good and get to work. All you need is right around you, embrace it and receive the sustenance you’ve been looking for all of your life –in your own back yard, within your own heart. Don’t throw a single piece of it away! Even the things that don’t make sense today . . . will someday, so keep the faith, dear friends. Onward to 2010 – our best year ever!
No matter how busy you are or aren’t, you may have noticed that the trees are putting on quite the show! Fall is our favorite time of year, the sky is true blue and the sun-kissed light enhances the treetops with a brilliance that makes us smile deep inside. Last Saturday, we headed west for a higher view on Mt. Mitchell. Blair reflects on how we jumped ahead a season on the last part of the drive up the mountain. The higher elevation brought freezing temperatures and bare trees with winter already setting in, a taste of what’s to come. The icy cloud mist nipped at our ears and tickled our tongues as we gave thanks. We felt grateful knowing we still had some time back home to savor the show before our great ally of the North will show up and bunker down. Thank you for taking the time to slow down, gather your energy in a centered space of receiving our love by reading this message all the way to the end for a blessing. Hope, faith and love, the greatest of these . . . Get out and VOTE today if you haven’t already, or get up and do something positive. If only 1% of us come together and meditate and practice positive change, we can truly affect our community and the world. Many are doing this already (thank you!). The lies of separation are based on fear and the “me/survivor” games are preludes to war, turning us against each other, making us think we can’t trust each other when we can. Let’s focus on love – we are stronger as ONE. Through unity we will survive as humans being kind to one another. Turn off the TV; turn up the music and dance!!! Join us in the two celebration circles in Nov. and Dec. Let’s sing our way through this time with our greatest gift – compassion for our diversity! “Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful committed citizens can change the world. Indeed it’s the only thing that ever has.” Gratitude Gathering Celebration Circles at the Holidays For both circles, please bring: Preparing for the Journey Technically, the hummingbird’s journey is scientifically impossible with her tiny wings, just as a spiritual journey may seem overwhelming to some. You would not have been given this desire to explore your spiritual growth if you weren’t capable of doing it. You only have to begin. As Blair says: wherever you are – is the best place to start. Like the hummer, you kind of disappear out of time for a minute when you “let go”, when you finally surrender to your spirit’s awakening, you can never go back to sleep again (thank goodness!). Everything here is part of “spirit”. You are spirit living as a human being having a spiritual journey every single second, wherever you are, whatever you do, its all spiritual – all part of the journey. Exclusively Yours! Ongoing Spiritual Growth Bi-monthly Circles for Individuals – Spiritual Coaching with Energy Clearings for Your Spirit! Please take time to read our website and learn more about us. Afterwards, if you find a pull to make a serious yearlong commitment (with homework to help you connect to the answers in the natural world and your every day surroundings), email terry@doedreamers.com to set up a time to schedule a complimentary phone chat with both of us, to ask questions regarding the circles and to apply. Yearly commitments allow us to give you reduced rates and keep your energy up. To begin in January of 2010, please plan to make your commitment by Dec. 20th. Each circle lasts two hours with two teachers two times a month at a time best for you (the same time each time, dates will be set with you). The work begins as soon as the circle is called and you are also added to our daily prayer list for the entire year. Of course, you can always continue to come on shorter length terms or on an as needed basis, we can work with you from where you are now and what is most comfortable for your life at this time. We also do distance phone consultations with distance energy clearings for those too far away to get here in person. You can always start a year’s work later in 2010, just whenever you’re ready, we’ll get started. As Blair says, we’re never done; it is the journey that’s so amazing. . . Bo on the Go Happy Harvest Moon
An email pops up across my computer screen just now:“I need someone to explain this to me! WTF???” WTF! Yes, this is precisely what I was thinking yesterday when we found a voice-mail message from a friend asking us to do prayers to try to help stop NASA from bombing the moon tomorrow on Friday, October 9, 2009 at 7:51am EST. When we received this call, we were on the way back from the coast, we had just left Grandmother Ocean with a short visit to Huntington State Park (beautiful and condominium-free). We had brought her gifts of pinecones and prayers in appreciation for her feeding upon our grief and devouring it. She whisked it away and carried it out to sea to be transformed into something more beautiful, to be returned with the next tide, back to the land to grow more beauty. The day before, we were busy responding to a call to do some clearing work in a beautiful pristine, preserve. A coastal paradise – full of lush green plants and white birds with black-tipped wings flying their babies across the warm, sun-kissed marshes. As we arrived, we had been greeted by an eager armadillo in the driveway just after watching lazy old alligators soak up the sunshine while resting on rocks in the water. We relished the slow-down time offered by moss hanging gray from trees lining pathways of brown and green columns – welcoming us into their arms and slumberous sleepy-time ways. All week, the energy had been so incredibly intense as this land called us closer. The rocking restfulness didn’t phase us with all the work we had to do, a full day of energy work and clearings, what a transformation in the land and everyone involved. Later that night, I was serenading a nearly full Grandmother Moon with gratitude for her gifts of grace. The wafting waves of smoke poured forth from an incense burner loaded with copal resin and rosemary (a special mix from Belize). This clearing, cleansing resin smoked both of us while I sprinkled prayer-imbibed plant water around a woman I was giving a Maya Spiritual Bath to under the stars. It just doesn’t get any better than that, doing my work outside in nature, empowering yet another woman to do her work even more profoundly. This precious connection to the moon, water and plants is a sacred and powerful tradition I am honored to share. I would have never considered that anyone would ever bomb this most wonderful friend of mine, the moon. Not a day or night goes by that we don’t take time to greet the sun and moon and give thanks for all they provide for all life on Earth. I’m not a scientist, but the ocean within my belly says this just can’t be a good thing for anyone. Since the earth's surface is 80% water and the human body is 80 % water, many people speculate that this is why we have more lunacy during the days leading up to, during and after a full moon. So, if NASA bombs the moon, what is that going to do to the surface of the earth, to our ocean and to us immediately or long-term? What effect will this have on the tides and waves? Why have all the tropical storms we've seen not come to land this year? What all is NASA really doing? Why ask why? Just let it go and get outside and listen to the answers within your own belly that will keep you connected to your own truth. At this time of harvest and feeling the fatness of fall offering abundance to us all, it seems ironic to blast our harvest moon, the one who does so much to grow the very food we eat. Bombs and war are mankind’s greatest illusion to control our outcome as human beings. Mother Teresa when once asked to participate in a March Against War refused to join in, but replied that she would be happy to be a part of a March for Peace. Focus on what YOU WANT, forget the rest, let the stories of the bombing die just as Goddesses disappeared when no one paid any attention to them, so can symbols of destruction. Together, we can make a difference. Together we can bring back the beauty and by continuing to feed it, we can keep it alive! Pay attention to the tides and promptings within your own belly, within your own mind, heart and soul. Allow the next full moon to help you harness your power through your personal creativity instead of letting the media paralyze you. Prepare now by beginning to court the moon tonight – sing her a song or say a prayer. Perhaps, with enough love, anything that would have harmed her will bypass her instead. We believe that miracles happen everyday through the power of love. It is only fear that stands between us and our personal freedom to believe in heaven on earth, that keeps us “busy” so we don’t have time to honor the paradise around us and within us every single day. So, get outside tonight, do a moon dance, a moon song, a moon chant, a moon poem – howl or whatever moves you! Honor the moon and all of nature with gratitude for what is good and natural within our lives. And maybe moon NASA while you’re at it! Let’s not take ourselves too seriously, after all, we are just specs on this planet. Focus on peace with Grandmother Moon tonight, see her as whole and bright and complete, free from harm. Then spread this thought to everyone in your family, your neighborhood, your community, your city, your state and your world. Focus on the beauty! Onward!!!
Summer's end, farewell my friend. Summer’s not quite gone, but already the leaves are falling from the dryness. Blair says it feels like everything is on hold. I’m sitting outside at 5pm and the Blue jays are swapping stories in the trees. The crows fly in over my head, hoping for an afternoon snack. A hummingbird buzzes in her iridescence, drinking sweetness from our backyard tap. Soon, the seasons will change and it will be too cold to sit outside and enjoy the garden. Yes, things seem to be on hold, awaiting the final harvest before they begin moving again. The hawks are moving already. A feisty Cooper chased one of our young crows first thing this morning, nipping at his tail feathers. Of course, the crow probably started it. Crows can be quite the antagonists in order to get a good game going. There was a band of owls hooting around 1am this morning and the crows were mocking them. They woke Blair up, he said they put on quite a show while I was sleeping. We just got back from a four-day stay in the mountains. We went to the annual Carolina Mountains Literary (CMLT) Festival in Burnsville. The theme was “Mountain Mosaic” with a focus on Appalachian writers, poets and songwriters so I fit right in. Blair flew off and found a powwow in Spruce Pine and did some dancing in their circle while I workshopped with very talented poets, writers and musicians. We stayed at a wonderful cabin called the Rustic Retreat, secluded on thirty acres with hiking trails that led us along the babbling creeks and rhododendron down to the Toe River where we were greeted hello by a fishing Falcon overhead. We had fun being out in the woods, away from the electronic world. The retreat is a beautiful place with bluebirds, ravens, crows and wild turkeys –serenading us every day. Saturday night, we went to the CMLT banquet, catered by Granny’s Kitchen. The keynote speaker and award-winning author, Ann Pancake (originally from Summersville, West Virginia) read an excerpt from her novel: “Strange as this Weather Has Been”. Her novel is based on a story of a West Virginia family and the perils of how they and other families are affected with mountaintop removal coal mining in southern Appalachia as well as the impact on the environment. She clarified that the new mining technique of blowing the tops off of mountains had taken what was 60,000 mining jobs down to 15,000 jobs. Now, the people there not only have to deal with losing their homes, they are also losing their livelihoods. We’re all responsible for this unless any of you have stopped using your electricity. I had a good talk with Ann about Earth and spirit, she asked me to stay in touch and I plan to do just that, we laughed about the many uncanny synchronicities, especially around the Doe. She’s written a very important and intently powerful novel. As I’m reading it, I wonder about all of the people who die every day, every minute, every second and no one ever gets to hear their story. Everyone has a story. I was only five years old when we moved from the Appalachia mountains to NC, but a part of my heart is still back there in the mountains with all those children, all those stories that may never be told . . . Once you have the mountains in your blood, you are always connected to them no matter where you are, you feel the hum. Another jewel to check out is Ann’s sister, Catherine Pancake’s film: Black Diamonds. Let me know if you’d like to see a screening of the film locally and I’ll arrange it or see how you can help on the website highlighted as Black Diamonds. Ann read from one of her characters, Mogey who spoke about the “allness” of being one with nature and how he had only felt it four times in his life – the last time asleep in a dream when a Doe came to him. You gotta get this book and read this chapter at least five times. The story hit home in my heart as Blair and I touch into that being one with nature often. I used to get there a lot on my own as a little girl when I’d go to the woods and write with the trees. Then back in 1999, a Cherokee Elder did a water treatment healing on me. Afterwards, I went outside and stretched out on the mossy emerald ground under the cool summer moon. I felt the earth’s heartbeat again and it hasn’t gone away since. Sometimes it’s hard to hear and feel, but with some energy clearing from Blair or a Maya Spiritual Healing bath, I can get back there and get reminded real quick why I do this work. The work we do with the Doe and those who come to us (that are serious about doing this work), we eventually get around to teaching them how to do this once they are ready to receive it and be responsible for it. Once you’ve touched it, you’ll never forget it. GAIA is losing parts of herself every day – entire mountaintops, plant and animal species, forests and ecosystems, icecaps and more. We all FEEL it and this energy is really hard to hold without experiencing pain unless you can “let go” and become nature. That night after the banquet, back at the cabin, we were distracted from our stargazing by three pairs of eyes glowing gold at us in the darkness. We were quite blessed to see that they belonged to a Doe, a buck and a fawn, bedding down in the front yard. We took that as a very good sign of new birth and beauty coming in. For every new life coming in, there is another life leaving. Our beautiful, beloved canine companion, Kayla aka “Blue Gypsy Spirit” died peacefully in my arms on August 27, 2009, almost fifteen years young. Her spirit certainly outlasted her physical form and she is now flying free without her tired body to hold her back. She touches in now and again. Feeling her presence is a treasure, but one that can never replace gazing into those inquisitive, wise eyes of hers. Or, in touching her ultra-soft, magnificent, multi-colored coat or inhaling her earthy doggie smell or hearing her speak her good morning “herrooooo!” All of that is gone and the house is empty without her, yet also void of her last days of pain. Thank you, Kayla, my beloved friend, my greatest teacher, the love of my life (next to Crow) for all of your gifts. Til next time, may you run free with all of your beauty and spirit. Life is for the living. Mother Jones (1837-1930), an Irish powerhouse advocate for the Union and miners and all-round “radical hell-raiser” even into her 80s, once said: “Pray for the dead, but fight like hell for the living.” We join her in saying: life is precious – don’t waste a drop of its delicious nectar. Some of the best work we do with Doedreamers is to connect people to their art, their music, their passion – whatever they can co-create to get them to their bliss, to feeling all that IS, to recognizing nature as themselves, not something to be owned, used, abused, but to be respected and loved. Join us on Sept. 26th for a workshop to connect you to your best art possible. Meet Your Artistic Spirit and Unleash Your Creative Potential. No art experience is necessary. We will take you on a guided shamanic journey into the future to touch the best art you can do in this lifetime. It may be art, music, poetry, writing, cooking, who knows! It will be yours! We believe (based on our experiences with our clients), that once you are connected to your art, you are connected to the Divine and this is the best medicine. Co-creating connects you to that powerful source flowing through you like a freight train through a tunnel – there’s no stopping it. Call Anne of Bricolage in Greensboro to reserve your spot at 336-271-4004. This workshop will be a profound way to harvest the creativity to feed you through the winter – to continue to help you create so that you will have a fountain of inner strength from which to draw from as needed. Here’s someone in NC making the most of their creativity through poetry, short stories, songwriting and singing. A great talent and new friend, Jim Clark we met this past weekend. Check out his books and CDs and posted songs and readings. We’ll have a booth this Saturday, Sept. 19th at Festival at the Mount 2009 Benefit for Urban Ministries 12-8pm Rain or shine $8 in advance, $10 at gate Have some fun and help Partnership Village, a transitional housing community providing tools necessary to break the cycle of homelessness. Showcasing three bluegrass bands: Strings of Faith, Constant Change and the nationally known, award winning band, Grass Cats along with food and craft vendors. Come see us at our booth and sit a spell, we'll have extra chairs for an informal meet and greet circle. We'll also have some of our crafts including aromatherapy spritzs, flower essence combos for people and pets, cedar wrapped smudge sticks, clearing feathers, abalone shells and earrings. Located 2 miles North of I-85/40 Exit 132 (Mount Hope Church Rd), at the intersection of Mt Hope Church Rd and Burlington Rd. Call Joy at 707-2507 for more information. No matter where you are and what you do this fall – do it 100%. Even “waiting” can be done mindfully. Maybe while you’re waiting, you can create something of beauty. This act in itself often changes the energy and dispels the “perceived rut” we may be in. Beauty – that’s what GAIA needs now, if you create something and only share it with her, that’s doing a lot. Once you’ve gone that far, you may as well muster up some more courage and share it with some people who also need beauty in their lives. They’re all over the place, so go ahead and do something creative. The world is waiting to be fed. Don’t be stingy, serve up ample portions and forget your troubles in the process.
July 21, 2009 Fireflies, fireworks and freedom Blair and I have always had a deep love for humanity – even as children we were the ones consoling others, telling them they would be okay. His Father used to say “Oh, quit your philosophisizin’, son and just live your life.” This seems good advice, but somewhat hard to follow for those of us who care about the state of “human” kind as much as Mother Earth. To us, we are all connected – the rocks, plants, trees, insects, animals, birds, fish and people. How can you ever have complete peace when any part of life is suffering? This takes great grace and room for understanding. July 4th was a blast – we went to Blair’s Mom’s land in High Point to celebrate with a cook-out and Blair put on his PaPa hat to set off fireworks for his beloved granddaughter turning four this month. Another little Leo, yeah! It was heart-opening to watch her eyes light up and hear her squeal and clap with delight with each and every spectacular show of color and sound. She sat next to her almost 90 year old Great Aunt joining in with “oohs and ahhs and oh mys!” It was like watching four generations between them, each one feeling the magic. Yet my heart hung heavy, this year was different because the 40 acres between us and the big fireworks being set off over the horizon was now missing ALL of its trees. Clear-cut by a man who had promised Blair’s Mom differently. He said he did it because he needed the money to pay his taxes. Blair’s daughter made some calls and learned that he had a logging permit all along. She was also told that Guilford County only had one person handling the forestry issues and he told her that there were so many large tracts of trees being cut down and sold right now, that they didn’t have the staff to even check to see who had proper permits. What does it mean when we have to cut down our grandmother and grandfather trees to pay taxes? Earlier, we had walked the logging road, dry and dusty with deer prints throughout it. My heart cried for the displaced birds, deer and creatures and for the ecosystems and medicinal plants destroyed. I cried silently inside not wanting to upset everyone else. I asked Grandmother Doe to help me find grace and gentleness and understanding, knowing that more destruction may come before the Age of Flowers fully settles in. I held my tongue, calling on love to flow into this broken land as I called on faith to see the trees returning. I prayed: great ones, guide us, direct us, help us spread a message of love and hope for a brighter tomorrow. For others to find what makes them smile and create beauty to outweigh the sadness. As the Hopi Elders proclaimed many years ago of this time we are in now, it is up to us, it can be a good thing, its our choice. There are lots of good things being cut these days and they affect the very people and animals needing the most help. Know that you can do something. For every situation, paint the light around it, pour love into it and refuse to focus on a dream of desperation, darkness and discontent. Express yourself in a creative way for it is through this co-creation with the Divine that we can hold a space for the Age of Flowers to blossom into. When you are in the midst of making something you are proud of, you lose your worries and experience a brief bliss that feeds the heart of the Universe. THAT magic has never been more needed! Now is the time to write and sing songs of beauty, to paint, to draw and sketch your art, to dance your dance, to simply create! Even gifting a child with an experience to make them squeal creates a higher octave so whatever art means to you, make more! There are cuts being made in schools and organizations for these very things, let’s keep them alive. We will be holding a workshop on Sept. 12th at Bricolage, a newly opened recycle and reuse center and community arts space. Come join us to celebrate your creativity and/or to connect to the creativity hidden within you, wanting to express the love of the Universe. Come see us this Saturday and support Doedreamers July 25th at the Shop Local Fair and again on Aug. 8th at Eden’s First Sustainability Fair. Join us in two upcoming teaching circles in August. Blair will deliver a timely message of inspiration and hope during this time of great change. The circle on Aug 1st at Gail’s place will include a guided drumming journey meditation to the Hummingbird to connect to your joy hidden in your heart. The circle on Aug. 15th at Spirit House will include a journey to the Dragonfly to teach you how to bend the light to better harness your manifestation on the earth plane. Bring your drums, flutes and rattles, we will sing our original songs and several will require group participation. These circles are quite healing when attended with an open, teachable heart. Let Blair offer you another way to look at things in a more positive and joyful light with his gentle medicine. Gifting is greatly appreciated, but not required. Don’t let the media paralyze you, it’s all a part of the magic-eating machine’s plan. Break out of the daze and choose FREEDOM! Its up to us how tomorrow’s landscape will look. As Blair teaches – what you see on the outside (all around you) is a reflection of what you are feeling on the inside. Let’s feed the fire in our heart with visions of new trees being planted, people being fed, animals being taken care of, children making music and art, adults dancing, elders telling stories and life going ON!
June 30, 2009 A new dawn, a gifted fawn brings hope for the year ahead. Summertime is about slowing down, so grab a refreshing beverage and take some time to read these inspiring words of hope (this one's even longer than usual). Blair’s Father always said to be still in July and January – both are very contemplative months, a great time to do your personal healing work. We won’t be out and about much till fall, so call and come see us if we can help you in any way. We really appreciate all of your support and referrals, especially now as we focus on keeping Doedreamers alive and well so we can continue to help others. What a cleansing rain Friday night, could it be connected to the energy happening at Eclectic by Nature’s Goddess Night? Several of us women came together to serve up lots of love and healing energy, at times, I thought I might burst into flames, what a lot of power under one roof! Not to mention, chocolate, cheese, munchies and wine. I loved looking around and seeing so many ladies smiling, biting into chocolate morsels and gazing off into the rare bliss of being free to relax – yum! Imagine what the world would be like if all women brought their power together to heal each other? The rest would be a snap! Tavane was the hostess-with-the-mostess, keeping everyone fed and comfortable in her life’s mission to bring healing to everyone she can. If you missed this one, watch for the next Goddess Night this fall! Our June 20th Summer Solstice Fire Circle was also cooking! Cay graciously hostessed one of the best potlucks we have been to in a long time. Everyone was in agreement that the food was incredible, what a feast. Blair started the fire before dinner and opened the directions. As I came into the circle quieting my thoughts in great reverence, I approached Grandfather Fire with a tobacco gifting and prayer and felt the energy strengthen. I lit the sage and began smudging myself while others enjoyed fellowship on the back porch. I felt the familiar and beautiful fire energy come in, it never fails to soothe my soul. Then it began to rain, a lovely light rain sprinkling down from the sun that was shining so brightly. Each raindrop was full of rainbow light – the same sort of light that comes through my Maya Spiritual Healing baths. The next day, a friend told us they were not able to find the fire circle. She had pulled over at the same time we were opening sacred space to see a beautiful rainbow. Blair said it was her job to report the rainbow, so thank you Thekla, we missed you and we’ll be sure to get you there next time! Rainbow Medicine heals all of the chakras, much like Cay’s chakra blankets do for an individual. Nature’s rainbows heal very large areas; this was a blessing to know as it truly showered the surrounding land with the love we were there to share. The 9 Maya Spirits often come in on the rain and I felt their presence as many of our allies and elementals joined us for the celebration. There were only a few of us standing around the fire in the rain, one of my teachers, a Cherokee Medicine Priest once told us that when you receive a gifting rain like that, it is a true blessing from Spirit, the subtle change in energy was precious. After dinner, we began gathering everyone towards the fire circle. As each person approached the entrance in the East, I asked their name to introduce them to the circle and smudged them. Each person was invited to take a handful of a mixture of tobacco, cedar and herbs to greet Grandfather Fire with and to also burn away all that they were not happy with this year. The intention was set with each individual to celebrate the beauty of the rest of the year to come. Everyone seemed happy to have an opportunity to burn away their uncomfortable experiences and to welcome goodness into their lives. We all certainly deserve some extra joy these days. Blair took his big Grandmother Drum and David and Tim joined him in playing right in line, it was amazing how well they all played together! Everyone did an incredible job of welcoming Mother Earth to the circle in the opening song. I forgot to note the Maya Bear song was from Martin’ Prechtel (all but one other was ours). That too was amazing how the women and the men stayed right on cue with every verse after we had all indulged in a big delicious meal. Hats off to our hostess-with-the-mostess, Cay and her very helpful neighbor, Bob who was always there to lend a hand with anything anyone needed. We were very grateful to share the medicine of the solstice in great celebration – food, laughter and song with so many brave souls that ventured out on the hottest day of the year to sit before a fire! It was good to see a few old friends who know us as Old Crow and Little Raven. We enjoyed meeting others who sat in circle with us for the first time. Many of whom we’d never met found their way to hold council with Grandfather Fire – to burn away all that they were not happy with this year and share our intention of a blessed happy year ahead. Everyone joined in with singing the songs and playing a wonderful myriad of instruments – drums, rattles with impeccable timing of the bell ringers, Margo and Rowan. As always we brought in the Doe and everyone sang our Welcome Grandmother Doe song and she heard us. Blair and I were the last to leave and just as we got about a minute or two down the road, a Doe and her baby fawn crossed right in front of us! A beautiful confirmation that she had blessed each of us at the circle with a much more gentle year ahead – a new fawn is bringing the much-needed gentleness in for those who opened their hearts that night to receive it. Nature never ceases to amaze us with her magical messages at just the right time. We sang songs about the fire, the sun, dragonfly, wisdom and more in celebration! The teaching was simple – the medicine gifted to all profound. There’s a humbling power when the big Grandmother Drum sits next to Grandfather Fire – the feminine and masculine energies unleashed into hearts opening and seeking balance, beauty, peace and joy. Such great abundance offered to spiral deep into every soul around the fire – awakening inner wisdom throughout the year for those who pay attention. As Blair said: “the answers you seek will find you in many ways. Just ask and let go and live your life! You will “know” as you need to know, enjoy your humanness and all the opportunities it brings. We called in the Eagle and she brought great clarity and vision medicine – many people received great gifts in the guided journey to talk with Grandmother Golden Eagle, to gaze into her golden eyes of vision and wisdom, up close and personal. Even those who didn’t share their experience from the drumming journey received much on a deep, personal level that often becomes much clearer as time goes on. We closed the circle with a group drumming and gratitude song to the Great One. Everyone joined in and added their own beat, rattle and song – we became ONE and fulfilled the unity Old Crow had intended for the circle. As human beings, we need to maintain our diversity, our right to be different; this is what makes the symphony sound so sweet to our ears. We asked that everyone be gentle with themselves and with each other along with the reminder – I’m another you, you’re another me – when you take chunks out of me, you take chunks out of you. We are all connected, when we take from Mother Earth, we create lack within ourselves. When we ignore the cry of the plants and animals disappearing, we experience longing that cannot be filled in any shopping mall. As Blair teaches, you don’t have to dwell on your spiritual path – just live it. Your work is here in your village with all of those who come into your circle, in your family, your friendships, your co-workers and acquaintances. You can see and feel the spirituality through the twinkle in your Granddaughter’s eye, in the caress of your lover’s hand, in the wisdom of the Elder’s words, in the silent cries of your son or daughter asking simply to be recognized and loved for where they are, in the kindness of strangers and in the blessings of friendships. LIFE IS FOR LIVING – CELEBRATE! We closed the fire with everyone putting the names of loved ones along with names and thoughts of those struggling and suffering into the fire. Blair did a tobacco prayer for everyone in the circle and all those we added to the circle and asked for help and a blessing for each one to receive what they need at this time so that we may each turn this year around to become THE BEST YEAR EVER FOR EVERYONE! And we believe it will be. Blair and I began doing these fire circles together six years ago. He had been doing them for a decade beforehand. We stopped our celebrating for a few years with illnesses and deaths in our family, his Father, his sister and my Mother, each died 6 months apart. It was like swimming in the ocean and getting taken under by a great wave and just as you’d find your way to the air again – blam! Down we’d go again into the deepest darkest throes of gut-wrenching grief, ah-yiiiiii. Time has passed and now we are back to spread our message of love for those who are ready to hear it. As we understand it, each of our circles opens a vortex of love and gentleness and blesses the land on which it is done, then each circle is woven to the next and on around the Triad. We partner with Mother Earth and all of our allies to weave a web of love – pure and simple. Join us in upcoming circles to spread this message to the inner soul of everyone wishing to reconnect to that childlike wonder of the fawn, the beginning again. Be teachable and vulnerable and most of all, don’t forget to have a good time. Come see us at the events listed on the right. Onward!!! PS: We are doing more tobacco prayers these days. For those of you who have received help with our tobacco prayers or just want to help us in presenting others cases for Spirit’s assistance, please send tobacco (preferably pesticide free and grown and harvested sustainably, free from other plant mixtures or pipe tobacco). Thank you! There are legends that tell of how the white raven and/or the white crow flew into the sun to bring back the light to the people in a darkened time. These two birds were scorched and turned black in the process… Now they are back again and flying high in the name of hope, faith and love for all life on Earth. Come soar, sing, drum, celebrate and heal with us!
