Hello, friends across the land!
We’re sending you wishes of great joy on the wings of hummingbird for the New Year and suggesting that we make every day Valentine’s Day! Imagine what it would be like to live in a world with hearts that remain open and able to give and receive love! Surely all of humanity would prosper.

Honoring another New Year.

February is a time to celebrate our love and warm ourselves by the fire, although this year has brought in warm weather ahead of its time. The Earth is changing to keep up with our needs as we use more and more of her resources. Many of us feel these shiftings in our very core and it is not always comfortable. We are changing, too. Many people seem to be experiencing more physical and emotional challenges at this time. Blair says this is a good thing, it means we are waking up and that may just be the key to our survival.

It’s still chilly at 6:30am as I step outside the back door and walk out to stand on Mother Earth, praising her with gratitude for my life. I look up to greet the sky just as twelve crows fly overhead. One of them looks down and caws hello! I replied: “good morning to you, my friend!” This brought back an old Cat Stevens song: “Morning has broken, like the first morning. Black bird has spoken, like the first bird. Praise for the singing, praise for the morning. Praise for the spring fresh from the word...mine is the morning…” I felt the innocence of a new year promising my heart a more gentle time ahead and my eyes glistened with relief. So much grief for so many of us these last few years along with much growth and gratitude.

As the sun begins to lift the darkness from the day, I am pulled to my garden where many flowers are beginning to blossom earlier than nature had planned. My Lemon Balm is pushing her way up through the mulch, popping up proud and eager to spread her love, it seems nothing can stop her. She is known as Melissa officinalis – the “happiness” herb (a wonderful remedy for lifting the spirits during mild depression). How do I tell her to go back to sleep when she has already been warmed and awakened by the sun? She is ready to stretch and grow – she has so much happiness medicine to share!

Even though the weather is warmer than usual, the bear is still hibernating, as are we in our biological thoughts. Our bodies are whispering, “Not yet…I need more time to rest, more time to be creative, more time to just be.” Many of us don’t get enough “down-time” unless we make it a part of our daily life. Time for ourselves is important to better balance our spirit to be prepared for all the day holds for us. When we take care of ourselves, we are much happier to help others. In beginning our days with love and gratitude, we will attract much of the same. If we simply take a few minutes each day to go outside and greet the sun and praise Mother Earth for all of her glorious nurturing, we not only set the tone for our day, we give her additional strength and support – she needs love, too. If you can sit in nature each day or go for a walk, you will be setting an example to honor yourself and all forms of life.

If we all take the time to balance ourselves and love the Earth, we can make a difference in what she will be able to do for future generations. We believe that those of us who are doing this have great power to make positive changes in the world. Perhaps others will follow our example. Even the ones who choose to stay asleep have a purpose. Although its hard to understand their determination to develop everything in sight for the sake of progress. The caretakers of the Earth may not appear to be contenders, but we are. Love is always stronger than fear and faith in knowing this can be very comforting when things are moving faster than we’d like for them to.

Blair feels that there is a great time of change coming in with this New Year – that an old pattern is dying off to give birth to something new. He says the Super Bowl strongly symbolizes a time for the underdog to start winning, after not being taken seriously for so long. The Patriots represent the way things have been done in the past and the ones who think that their way is the only way. The Giants worked harder and were prepared. The Patriots had the perfect record, the right plays, great players, but they didn’t come in with as much heart. When enough of us put our hearts into something that matters, we can create a positive change. People are ready for a change in how things are being done. If we wait until the changes needed have gone beyond being a necessity, they could become laws driven by fear. Many European countries have already experienced this and now live by strict sustainable guidelines enforced by their governments. The tree huggers and activists that have not been taken seriously are going to come out on top this time. It’s time for old, set patterns of how things are done to come to an end and allow a beginning again.

Many of you receiving this newsletter are land stewards and lightworkers – you play an enormous part in healing and protecting people, plants and animals. Keep doing this blessed good work, there are more and more of us needed each and every day and it makes our numbers strong when we support each other.

We have a space of time to change, let’s all come together and do our part. Let’s each begin our day in balancing ourselves with Mother Earth. Remember to be gentle with yourselves and each other. For those of you looking to do more to save the plants, trees, animals and land, see the links on our website. Come dream a more beautiful tomorrow with us.

For the trees!
In love and light,
Terry Rader and Blair Caudle
